Text Box: FRESNO, CA.- The Fresno Sports Council (FSC) shattered its previous record for booking new events in 2007.  The organization, now in its third year, generated 20-events new to the Fresno area, including several martial arts events and two National Championships.  Highlights include:    •	2008 California/USA Wrestling Youth Championships-March  •	2008 USA Taekwondo National Qualifier-April  •	2008 XPSL Paintball Tournament-June  •	2008 USSSA State Softball Championships-July  •	2008 ASA Western National Softball Championships-August  •	2009 US Masters Swimming Short Course National Championships-May  •	2009 ASA Softball Men’s 45-Over Fast Pitch National Championships-September  •	2010 USA Taekwondo National Qualifier-March    These new sporting events are expected to produce over 8-million dollars in economic impact, 10-thousand in estimated attendance, 15-thousand new hotel room nights that will generate nearly 170-thousand dollars in hotel room tax revenue for the City of Fresno.      Other highlights include securing a new long-term contract with the Fresno Falcons Hockey Club, who will return to Selland Arena in October of 2008 and launching its new interactive web site to promote Fresno and the region’s numerous sports venues.    “2007 was an outstanding year for the FSC .” said William C. Overfelt, GM of the Fresno Convention & Entertainment Center/SMG, and CFO of the sports council Board of Directors.  “The FSC, in partnership with SMG and the City of Fresno’s Convention & Visitors Bureau were able to book exceptional events.  The continued cooperation between the 3 entities bodes well for the long term success of attracting new sporting events to our City.”    The Fresno Sports Council is a non-profit organization managed by SMG on behalf of the City of Fresno.
